The teacher-centered learning system that has been implemented is increasingly perceived as no longer delivering satisfactory results or benefits, particularly in equipping students with the skills needed to compete in the job market. Therefore, in line with the wisdom of transforming the learning system, this approach has been shifted toward student-centered learning, which is expected to bring about a change in mindset. One of the goals of this paradigm shift is to produce graduates who are not only job seekers but also job creators. In line with the development of a competency-based curriculum, students have been equipped with various relevant courses such as entrepreneurship, business feasibility studies, and fisheries business planning. However, these courses are still considered insufficient to foster the interest and courage of students to become entrepreneurs in the real sector. One of the contributing factors is the lack of adequate practical facilities that can stimulate a sense of business among students.Fisheries and agricultural businesses have proven to be resilient industries, capable of withstanding global economic crises. Furthermore, the growing issues surrounding food security and the need for sufficient animal protein supply are opening up even more opportunities in the business sector. In the field of fisheries, the production and consumption targets set by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries present both challenges and opportunities for fisheries businesses.Grounded in these current conditions, challenges, and potential, the management of the Department of Fisheries at UGM, with the support of all staff members, established a student entrepreneurship training center, better known as the Inkubator Mina Bisnis (IMB) or Mina (Fish) Business Incubator.
IMB is a platform to educate and develop the entrepreneurial spirit of students, so that graduates of the Department of Fisheries UGM are expected to have an adequate sense of business. In the Mina Business Incubator, students are trained in an integrated manner between soft skills and practical skills. This training center is expected to become a facility for students, alumni, and the general public to improve their ability to identify and develop innovative ideas, opportunities, and better ways of running fisheries businesses.
The objectives of the establishment and development of the IMB entrepreneurship training center are:
